The construction of Tropicana Field was completed in 1990 in efforts to draw a Major League Baseball team to the Tampa area. In 1995 it was finalized, a team was coming to Tampa. From 1990 to 1998 Tropicana Field was used for basketball, hockey and other events. In 1998 the Tampa Blue Jays played there first game at the field. Tropicana Field has seating capacity for more than 43,000 fans and has a Fieldturf playing surface due to the dome.
