Wisconsin Overview

Lake Michigan Milwaukee WI US Hotels

Wisconsin, a northern Midwest state, is fortunate to border two Great Lakes, giving visitors the option of wonderful outdoor activities along with urban experiences. Largest city Milwaukee, right on Lake Michigan, offers many Wisconsin hotel options along with a plethora of things to do. Visit a brewery, check out the popular County Zoo or attend the annual waterfront Summerfest for live music, food and fun. Biking on 76 miles of trails is quite popular, as well as Bucks and Brewers games.

Also in the southern part of the state is the state capital Madison, just 80 miles west of Milwaukee. Visitors enjoy the many activities associated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as touring the Olbrich Botanical Garden and family-friendly Henry Vilas Zoo.

Green Bay is located just two hours north of Milwaukee. This city is home to the champion NFL Packers and this whole city revolves around their team during football season! Bay Beach Amusement Park and the NEW Zoo are just two of the attractions to be enjoyed. An hour’s drive north to Door County brings you to the aptly named Peninsula State Park. Simply fantastic, you can play golf, camp, fish, kayak, watch a summer performance, visit a lighthouse or climb a 75-foot tower for panoramic views – whew! Want to really get away from it all? Drive to the tip of the peninsula, then take two ferries to Rock Island State Park where cars and bikes are not allowed, and 5,000 feet of beach and miles of hiking trails await you.

Way up towards the northwest corner, at Lake Superior, is Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. There are 21 islands with numerous ways to enjoy them, including daily shuttles, water taxis, sunset cruises and the like. Spend your day exploring historic lighthouses and sandstone cliffs in this bird-watching paradise. Southern Door County features Potawatomi State Park, 1200 acres of unspoiled nature where you can hike the Ice Age National Scenic Trail or climb a 75-foot tower to be rewarded with an incredible view.

Along the North Country National Scenic Trail, Copper Falls State Park is a gem of an outdoor wonderland. You can see rushing waterfalls, ages-old lava flows and deep gorges; swim, hike, fish, cross-country ski – just do it! Wisconsin offers a perfect backdrop for your next vacation!
