Hampton, South Carolina, is a small town that was incorporated in 1879. Even two months prior to incorporation, a paper called “The Hampton County Guardian” was launched. Even today, this paper remains residents’ number one source for local news. Hampton has no shortage of festivals, either. The town has been hosting the Hampton Watermelon Festival since 1939. That makes this festival the oldest continuing festival in South Carolina! It’s a week long event chock full of things to do and is planned by dedicated volunteers from all over Hampton County. The town of Hampton also has plenty of land devoted to recreation in the forms of ball fields, tennis courts, a lighted walking park, and playgrounds.
