Goose Creek was originally settled by a group of immigrants from Barbados. Before that, there is no record of how many Native American tribes resided in the area. The planters from Barbados brought with them a social order that relied heavily on slave labor and farming. There are still many plantations that can be visited by the public. Crowfield plantation and Liberty Hall are two of the more popular plantations to visit. Heavy slave labor continued until the Civil War. Even after the Civil War, African-Americans outnumbered Caucasians four to one. Presently, Goose Creek is home to approximately 30,000 residents. An amazing sense of community thrives in the town, and the natural beauty of the area is still a draw for people, as it was when the town was first established.
