Pearl Fryer began working on his three acre garden in 1984; he was trying to win “Yard of the Month” for his home. His garden work continued; his yard has become filled with manicured, sculptured plant forms. Art and botanical enthusiasts come from all over the world to visit the Topiary Garden.

Bishopville has a long history with cotton. Due to this history, downtown Bishopville is home of the Lee County Cotton Festival annually. 2007 marked the 30th anniversary of the Lee County Cotton Festival! The Cotton Pickin’ Festival was established in 1977 as a means to give honor to cotton, the fiber that had been the economic glue of Lee County.
