Minnesota Overview

Minneapolis MN Hotels

Minnesota shares its northern border with Canada, offering an abundance of forests and lakes, where visitors can experience four distinct seasons. The major metropolis known as the Twin Cities, Minneapolis/St. Paul is centrally located and offers every imaginable type of Minnesota hotel you might desire. St. Paul is on the banks of the Mississippi River and serves as state capital. With over twenty lakes in the area, outdoor activities such as bicycling and fishing are popular. Shop ‘til you drop at the iconic Mall of America or cheer til you are hoarse for its pro sports teams. A couple of the family-friendly attractions are recognized as among the top in the nation, including the Children’s Theatre Company and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The seventy-two miles of river flowing through this metro area are known as the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area; biking, birding, geocaching and hiking are great activities to get you into the Minnesota fresh air.

Rochester, an hour and a half southeast of Minneapolis, is home to world-renowned Mayo Clinic. Port city Duluth is the westernmost point of the Great Lakes, on the shores of Lake Superior; it is actually directly linked to the Atlantic Ocean! Itasca State Park, oldest in the state, features a 2,000-acre Wilderness Sanctuary, a National Natural Landmark. You can also explore the largest collection of log-constructed, rustic style buildings in the state park system, all built between 1905 and 1942. See how many of Itasca’s over 100 lakes you can find!

A system of interconnected waterways is the star at Voyageurs National Park, adjacent to International Falls; visitors enjoy a winter playground at this northern Minnesota locale. Blue Mounds State Park, tucked into the southwestern corner of the state, hosts a cool program where you can learn to rock climb on its 100-foot high quartz cliff.

A fun way to explore fifteen cities is to bike the Paul Bunyan Trail, 110 miles through natural beauty of hills and lakes. Minnesota is a natural wonderland - plan to visit soon!
