Ever thought of vacationing in Pennsylvania? Well, you should! Pittsburgh is located in the southwest corner of the state and at the confluence of three Rivers: the Allegheny, Monongahela and the Ohio. A great number of attractions, Pittsburgh PA hotels and hotels are waiting for you. The area has morphed through the years into an exciting urban city surrounded by beautiful countryside, inviting you to come and explore!
Arrive by air at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and check into one of the adjacent Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hotels, or by highway in your own automobile - either way navigation of the area is not a problem with choices galore, including light rail and buses and even pedicabs. Utilize the city’s Wayfinder System with color-coded signage for each of five general regions; there are both directional and destination signs.
Downtown is a great place to start your exploration, beginning with a visit to historic Market Square. The downtown area features hip shopping, dining and nightlife. Its Cultural District offers quarterly art gallery crawls as well as Broadway shows at the Benedum Center as well as Heinz Hall for Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performances.
Cultural attractions continue with the internationally recognized Carnegie Museum of Art (one of four Carnegie Museums in this city). For twentieth-century pop art, you must explore the Andy Warhol Museum. The Victorian Greenhouse at Phipps Conservatory has provided a feast for the eyes since 1893, with holiday seasons perhaps the busiest times. Nearby Schenley Park offers 456 acres of urban parkland, great for picnicking or walking trails. This city experiences all four seasons, so every visit will offer you a unique outdoor perspective.
Families enjoy learning about unusual birds from all over the world at the National Aviary; try the Carnegie Science Center with its Highmark SportsWorks for amazing exhibits and sports challenges. Of course, the whole family needs to go to a ball game! The Steelers, Pirates and Penguins all provide exciting sports action; the Rivers Casino is the place for gaming action.
One of the favorites among locals and visitors alike is Station Square with its riverfront location on the south side of the city. You can dine, shop and stay here; be sure to climb the Monongahela Incline to see breathtaking views of the city. Plan to take a drive of the countryside while in the area; perhaps a visit to the equestrian estate Hartwood Mansion and Park could be your destination, where you can take guided tours of the mansion and stables.
As you can see, there’s an awful lot to do in Pittsburgh, and it can be difficult to narrow down to the best hotel for you. Try using the blue Attractions tab at the top of this page as it allows you to search for hotels close to a venue or attraction. This city is large enough that you will certainly find a hotel in your price range, and often with a discount price with a little advance planning.
From Steel City to high-technology center, Pittsburgh really has become a city which has it all. Let OneTravelSource be your guide as you plan your vacation!
