Perched atop a soaring cliff face with breathtaking views out over the Bay of Naples Hotel Il Gabbiano is a lovely hotel in the attractive resort of Baia. The hotel itself is surrounded by the beautiful Phlegraean Fields (enshrined in Greek mythology) with their fascinating archaeological sites. From here one can see all the way from Pozzuoli in the north sweeping down past the magnificent volcanic peak of Mount Vesuvius as far as Sorrento to the south. Nearby is an ancient Roman thermal bath the Stufe di Nerone with its own open-air mineral pool which clients are welcome to experience. The hotel has an excellent restaurant offering a delightful menu of local Mediterranean flavours; there is also a restful lounge/bar serving a wide array of drinks and cocktails. Or one can unwind at the small health spa with sauna; perfect for a few hours relaxation. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful and information about a selection of interesting excursions is available on the reception desk. These include trips to Naples (Napoli) and its historic center the archaeological park of the Phlegraean Fields and Pozzuoli with its ancient Greek and Roman remains.
