The Los Angeles Lakers have called STAPLES Center home since the 1999-2000 NBA season. During their tenancy, they have secured an unprecedented three consecutive NBA Championships, including the 2000 NBA game six victory over the Indiana Pacers at STAPLES Center. Staples Center has been home to the Los Angeles Kings since 1999 and provides seating for approximately 18,118 Kings fans. The Kings play 41 of their 82 regular season games at STAPLES Center. During their 2003-2004 season, the Kings enjoyed 30 sellout games and set a STAPLES Center attendance record for a single hockey game with 18,743 fans (standing room only) watching the Kings host the San Jose Sharks.

The stadium was the site for the 1993 Olympic Rowing competition and the 1968 Olympic rowing trials. Marine Stadium was recently designated as an official state historic site. Water skiing is permissible in designated areas only between 8 a.m. and sunset. Rowing is allowed from sunrise to 8 a.m. Before sunrise and after sunset, rowing is allowed only with the proper running lights and observing the 5 mile per hour speed limit. During the year events such as California Outboard Motor Racing Association (COBRA) races, International Jet Ski Association demonstrations, Long Beach Rowing Association Regattas and Golden West Water Ski Tours slaloms and water-ski club activities are held.
This older course has many trees lining its fairways. As a result, the fairways are narrow. In addition, water hazards (several lakes) come into play on many holes. Ted Robinson redesigned twelve of the original holes in 1962, followed by Garrett Gill and George B. Williams, who redesigned the entire course in the early 1990's.
