The 4 star Hotel de la Citi is built inside the walls of Carcassonne Europes largest fortified citadel where each stone is a mute witness to its romantic past. Set between two historic landmarks the Chbteau Comtal and the gothic Saint-Nazaire Basilica the hotel is surrounded by glorious gardens. Built in 1909 on the site of the Episcopalian Palace it has recently undergone a major renovation to restore it to its former glory. It remains today a favorite hideaway for Europes elite. The hotels ground floor is listed by the French National Conservation Trust. All rooms are individually decorated most overlook the gardens and ramparts and several have balconies or terraces.
