Museums: - * Fort Walla Walla Museum - 2 miles - Fort Walla Walla Museum is a 16 building pioneer settlement with a 19th century military and Indian cemetery. There is a life size diorama of Lewis & Clark with Yellept of the Walla Walla band. The 1920 wheat harvest exhibit features a 33 mule team hitched to a wooden combine surrounded by a mural of the harvest. The museum has Living History Company performances, Lewis & Clark Days, Art shows, Fall Harvest Festival, and many special events. After more than a decade living with the Cayuse Indians, the Whitmans and 11 others were killed by a band of Cayuse during a measles epidemic. The tragedy sparked a war between the Cayuse and settlers from the Willamette and Lower Columbia Valleys, eventually leading to the creation of the Oregon Territory in 1848. The museum is the home to a textile center showcasing period textile arts. 509-529-4373 * The Frazier Farmstead Museum - 12 miles-The Frazier Farmstead is the original homesite of the community founder William S. Frazier. Settled in 1868, the six acre site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The restored home contains many of its original furnishings and exhibits by the Umatilla Historical Society. It is the oldest railroad station in the State of Washington. There is a life size diorama of Lewis & Clark with Yellept of the Walla Walla band. After more than a decade living with the Cayuse Indians, the Whitmans and 11 others were killed by a band of Cayuse during a measles epidemic. The tragedy sparked a war between the Cayuse and settlers from the Willamette and Lower Columbia Valleys, eventually leading to the creation of the Oregon Territory in 1848. Frazier. Settled in 1868, the six acre site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest railroad station in the State of Washington.
