Migratory Birding - The Klamath Basin of Northern California and South Central Oregon is home to over 350 species of birds throughout the year. It is world famous for spectacular flocks of waterfowl on the lakes, rivers and nearby Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges. We're especially blessed to be home to the largest concentration of wintering Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states. The Winter Wings Festival coincides with the presence of wintering waterfowl and eagles, so that festival participants can enjoy these magnificient birds on tours and learn more about them at workshops. The purpose of the festival is to share information, increase awareness of community resources and gain an understanding of our wildlife resources, especially the birds of Klamath Basin.

Centrally Located: - We are centrally located to a wide-range of activities to suit any taste. In the summer you can enjoy fishing, mountain biking, hiking, mountain climbing, boating, swimming, water skiing, wildlife and bird watching or golf at any of six area courses including the 18 hole Running Y Ranch course which was designed and built by the Arnold Palmer Design Co. Through the winter months, you can snowmobile, cross country ski, downhill ski, snowboard and snowshoe. Additionally, the Klamath Basin is home for numerous special activities throughout the year. In February, enjoy the Bald Eagle Conference held locally. We have the largest concentration of wintering Bald Eagles in the contiguous 48 states. April is the peak of the spring waterfowl migration thereby offering an excellent opportunity for bird watching in the numerous surrounding wildlife preserve. The Klamath Memorial Rodeo & Pow Wow takes place in May and is followed in June by the Great Northwest Pro Rodeo. Crater Lake is the picturesque setting for the rim run and marathon bearing its name each year in August, which is also the month for Klamath Tribes Restoration Celebration. All of this in addition to the many fairs, festivals and celebrations taking place at any given time ensure that, no matter what time of the year you visit us, we will be able to find a pursuit to interest you.
