The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is located 2 blocks from the hotel and offers service to Silverton in the summer months and to Cascade Canyon in the winter months. It is a coal fired steam engine that travel along one of the most scenic routes in America. Mesa Verde is a National Park located 60 miles west of Durango. Visitors can walk through the Anazasi ruins or take guided tours provided by the Park Service.
Guests at the Historic Strater Hotel can use the Durango Community Recreational Center. Passes are provided at the front desk of the hotel.
